Capcom Actually Listening to Fans?

Capcom may be taking a customer service cue from companies like BioWare.

The public backlash over Capcom’s use of locked DLC stored on the disc, the poor sales of Street Fighter x Tekken, and the run in with the Better Business Bureau were all signs that Capcom had made a serious misstep.

Change is Good

According to Edge Online, two Capcom representatives – one from the west, one from the east – signaled a significant change in the company’s thinking. The first came from Chris Svensson, corporate officer and SVP of Capcom USA, who in a post on Capcom’s community forums revealed that the publisher was moving on from on-disc DLC.

“We would like to assure you that we have been listening to your comments,” he writes, “and as such have begun the process of re-evaluating how additional game content is delivered in the future.

“As this process has only just commenced in the past month or so, there will be some titles where development began some time ago and that are scheduled for release in the coming months for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post-release content is delivered.

“You are being heard,” he assures fans in closing.

Fixing SF x Tekken

However, according to producer Tomoaki Ayano, those changes may even occur on Street Fighter x Tekken.”Before we develop new gems, we’ll balance the current ones.”

“We are considering changing the release of the twelve characters,” he admits. “We also want to make this game strong enough to battle its way through the summer rush of fighting games.”

So Who Gets Left Behind?

Dragon’s Dogma will be one of the games that will still have DLC built onto the disc, and it remains to be seen if they will adjust this as they plan to do with SF x Tekken.

What do you think about these promises to change? Do you think they are sincere or even that SF x Tekken IS fixable?
